A very special workshop to learn about a surprising technique used to recycle plastic bottles created by Micaella Pedros, a product designer based in London who is travelling around Guatemala.
Joining bottles is an innovative joining technique used for wood using plastic bottles. By applying heat, a simple bottle can transform into an accessible material for joining and ecologically significant for constructing functional structures.
In this workshop you will learn the basics of the technique and do it with your own hands. You will understand the principal elements of making strong joints using plastic bottles. The process can be applied to joining wood, extending wood pieces used in carpentry, joining manufactured wood with virgin wood and even join wood and stone. It can even be used to repair furniture in a bad state.
Micaella has been working with that technique for 2 years. She developed it during her studies in the prestigious school; The Royal College of Art in London.
